North Fork Father Has Violent Criminal History; Why Did He Have Custody?

A North Fork father is in jail for child neglect- the day after his baby son fell out of a car, head-first.

Marc McMurrain is also facing a battery charge for attacking our news crew.

This caps off a long list of violent convictions and child abuse charges to his name.

A convicted violent felon, court documents show McMurrain has a long rap sheet dating back to 2000 when he was convicted of burglary and served prison time.

In 2002 he was convicted of having meth.

In 2009 he was charged with three counts of felony child abuse.

Last year he was charged with three more counts of felony child abuse and Tuesday, he was arrested for one count of child neglect and battery.

In addition to the baby boy who fell on his head at Bass Lake, court documents show McMurrain has at least two other kids.

KMPH News Crew Attacked By Man Accused Of Child Endangerment At Bass Lake

KMPH News Anchor Nicole Garcia and photographer, Matt Romero, were attacked by a man accused of child endangerment while covering a story at Bass Lake Monday.

Now 33-year-old Marc McMurrian is under arrest. He faces child endangerment and misdemeanor battery charges for the attack.

The first time the crew approached the man, they did not know he was involved with the incident, and he denied being involved.

Later, as the crew was shooting video in the parking lot, the man began yelling and using profanity, then approached the camera.

Madera County Sheriff's deputies say it all began early Monday afternoon, when he left his 8 ½ month old boy alone in a van as he carried supplies to a picnic area.

While he was gone, deputies say the baby crawled out a broken window and landed head first on the ground.

A Good Samaritan found him and called 911.

Murder Charges Against Two Madera Teenagers

Two teenagers accused in a deadly shooting in Madera have been charged with murder.

On Monday, Jose Alonzo Vega and Nicolas Salazar -- both 15 and of Madera -- were charged as adults with murder in connection with the shooting death of 16-year-old Jesus Espinoza, the Madera County District Attorney's Office said.

The shooting happened Wednesday along Madera Avenue near Highway 99.

The DA's Office says Vega and Salazar have also been charged with participating in a criminal street gang and criminal threats.

Vega is being held without bail.

Salazar's bail was set at more than $1.5 million.

A teenager was shot at point blank range on the side of a busy Madera street Wednesday. Now police say two teenage gangsters are in custody.

The shooting happened around 2:30 p.m. Police say two teenage boys were walking home from a nearby continuation school, when they were confronted by three other teenagers from a rival gang.

One of the rival gang members shot four bullets into the chest of another teen. He died on the way to the hospital.

The Garcia family who lives nearby ran to his aid before police arrived. Cruz Garcia says, "I kept telling him hold on mijo hold on mijo, they will be here soon, calling 911 and I saw his friend let him go and he was crying."

Madera police say after the shooting, the three teenage suspects ran from the area and then tried to carjack someone. Patrol officers in the area stopped two of the three and arrested them.

A 20 year old woman was shot early Sunday morning as she was leaving a party in Madera.

Police say her wound is non-life threatening but she remains hospitalized.

Detectives say people who weren’t invited to the party fired several shots but the woman was the only person hurt.

The shooting took place on the 200 block of Monterey Street.

Police don’t know if the shooting was gang related.

Copper wire thieves have a new target to get rich quick and it could leave you without phone or Internet service. Crooks are now focusing on communication lines instead of street lights. 

There have been 20 new theft cases in the past month and a half. Copper thieves are now getting telephone poles to come tumbling down so they can get to the wire. AT&T has taken the brunt of the vandalism. The damage figure ranges between 200-thousand and 300–thousand dollars. 

Fresno County Sheriff's Deputies had their guns drawn when they entered a house on the 4500 hundred block of west Adams southwest of Fresno. Earlier Thursday, deputies got their first major break in the copper wire thefts case. They arrested 36-year-old Eric Harper. Deputies say they caught him stripping wire on the property. Harper, from Madera, is on parole for burglary.
