Leave Canned Food at Your Mailbox Today

Leave Canned Food at Your Mailbox Today

Today, Saturday, May 12, 2012, the National Association of Letter Carriers will pick up canned and dried foods for Stamp Out Hunger across America. Now in its 20th year, the Stamp Out Hunger effort is the nation’s largest single-day food drive.

In recent years, a record-setting total of 77 million pounds of food was donated, bringing the grand total of donations to more than one billion pounds collected over the history of the drive.

To help Stamp Out Hunger, simply leave a sturdy bag containing non-perishable food items next to your mailbox before regular mail delivery today, Saturday, May 12th. The nation’s 230,000 letter carriers will then collect the donations as they deliver the mail and take them to food banks and other hunger relief organizations in more than 10,000 local communities.

Get a Tipsy Tow On St. Patrick's Day

AAA will offer the service to drinking drivers from 6 p.m. on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17th to 6 a.m. March 18th, potential passengers, party hosts, bartenders, and restaurant managers can call 800-222-4357 (AAA-HELP) for a free tow home of up to ten miles. Just tell the AAA operator, “I need a Tipsy Tow,” and a truck will be on its way.

Kids Day: You Can Help Sick Children With $1

Tuesday, March 6, 2012 is the 25th anniversary of Kids Day.

Hundreds of volunteers will be selling special editions of the Fresno Bee for $1, from 5:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., throughout the Central Valley.

All proceeds go to Children's Hospital Central California.

Drivers are asked to be extra careful since many people will be pulling over to buy their newspapers from volunteers standing on curbs.
