Super Pet Adoption Featuring Madera Animals

The Friends of the Madera County Animal Shelter and Petsmart Charities are holding a Super Adoption Event this weekend May 5th & 6th from 11:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at the PetSmart store in Clovis.  The store is located at 470 Shaw Avenue.

The Madera volunteers will be bringing puppies and many other types and sizes of cute, cuddly shelter dogs to display for adoption at the weekend event.

The adoption fee is $100 to adopt a shelter puppy or dog. All animals are altered, and up to date on their shots and for this adoption event a ID micro chip is included in the price. Petsmart Charities is including a free bag of Purina Pro Plan dog food along with other valuable coupons. 

Shelter director Kirsten Gross said the annual event also helps promotes public awareness of all the great animals waiting for homes in local shelters.

A Valley supermarket chain is helping animals by raising money for local rescue groups.

Food 4 Less is collecting donations at all of its locations through May 6, 2012.

You can help out by giving a donation at the check-out.

The money will go to six organizations:

- The Cat House on the Kings
- Westside Rescue
- Pawsitive Connections
- The Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter
- Central Valley Railroad Rescue
- Heart of the Horse Therapy Ranch

Tropical Fish Store To Open In Oakhurst

There’s nothing tropical about Oakhurst, Ca….Until now.  A taste of the tropics is moving to Oakhurst and reopening Tuesday May 1st, 2012.  Steve’s Tropical Fish is the mountains only source for fresh and salt water fish and are trusted for their expertise.  Currently located in Coarsegold they are gearing up to become the unofficial Oakhurst Aquarium. With a beautiful showcase of “Monster Fish”, freshwater and saltwater fish, as well as Turtles and Crabs, it’s sure to bring out the kid inside of you!

Pet Shot Clinic Draws Hundreds

The monthly pet vaccination clinic in Madera drew hundreds of pets and their owners Saturday.

People lined up early to get their dogs and cats vaccinated for rabies and other once a year shots.

Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter sponsor the monthly event and provide shots at discounted prices.

On average, volunteers vaccinate 500 cats and dogs during a two hour period.

The next pet vaccination clinic is scheduled for Saturday, May 5th.

Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter will conduct a low cost shot clinic for dogs and cats on Saturday, April 7th, at the Madera Fairgrounds.

Rabie shots are $6.  Parvo/Distemper combos are $12.  For more information call 675-7891 or 363-5106.

All proceeds benefit homeless shelter animals and the low cost spay and neuter programs administered by The Friends of the Madera Animal Shelter.

The shot clinics begin at 10:00 a.m. and end at noon.
